Are you thinking of growing out those dreaded grey roots and embracing your natural beauty? If so, don’t worry, you’re not alone. We are regularly asked about this in the salon.
The process is dreaded by many women but there’s no reason to be scared. In a few simple steps we will help you become a beautiful and confident silver fox.
Below, I have outlined what we do in the salon to allow you rock the grey look;
Commit to the Cause;
At the beginning of the process, when you’ve finally made the decision to forget the permanent colour, you will have to fully commit to the transformation journey. It can be very difficult not to give in and cover those grey roots just one more time.
BUT there is no time like the present. So just go for it. We, being the hair experts, can make the journey hassle free and a lot more bearable!
Early Stages;
We begin by where we would usually cover the entire root with colour, we now mask the grey with scatter highlights through your regrowth. This nicely blends the grey with your previously coloured ends and is the starting point for introducing that gorgeous grey.
For each salon visit after this, we suggest gradually brightening your ends with more highlights. This will remove all the previous cosmetic colour and help to get your hair as close as possible to the lightness of your natural grey root. This process will also of course keep your hair in good nick, which is our top priority!
Maintenance;
In between salon visits we suggest you invest in a root touch up product. This will quickly become your best friend! Our favourite is the Kevin Murphy Retouch Me which is applied directly to the roots in a light spray. Don’t worry about removing it as it is easily washed out with just one shampoo. This is great for masking the grey roots without permanently colouring them. The Kevin Murphy Retouch Me is ideal for nights out or special occasions where you can’t bear to look at the grey strip down the middle of your hair!
It is also important to get regular trims (read Leah’s blog post on hair cutting Here) and apply treatments along the way. These will help your hair grow faster so you should be at your desired ‘au natural’ look in no time.
Finally;
When your ends have been lightened enough with highlights, we can then apply grey toners. This is to match your ends to your natural grey root. Once they match, you’re done!
And trust us you will never look back!
